Award Information
The Thomas Jefferson Prize is awarded to tenured or tenure-track faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in research and creative activity or have made other significant achievements that might not be recognized in the usual university reward system. Preference is given to faculty members working in fields for which external funding is limited. The prize may be awarded for one-, two-, or three-year periods.
Award Terms
The recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Prize also receives a monetary award in the amount of $6,000 per year awarded. Awards will be conferred at the Academic Honors Banquet on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.
Nomination Process
The steps of the nomination process are outlined below:
- Nominator submits a completed nomination packet via the online form. A completed nomination packet includes:
- Nomination letter: In colleges with departments, the nomination letter can come from the dean or department head. If the letter is submitted from the department head, it should be approved by the dean prior to submitting. In colleges without departments, the dean must submit the nomination letter, so no endorsement is necessary. The letter should highlight how the nominee excels in their field and any outstanding achievements they have made.
- Copy of the nominee’s curriculum vitae (not to exceed five pages in length)
- Additional letters of support are not needed for this award.
- All materials should be submitted as a single PDF.
