Excellence in Advising Award

Award Information

The Excellence in Advising Award recognizes the integral role of academic advising in the teaching mission of the university and its direct impact on student success.

This award specifically seeks to reward those individuals who are uniquely effective in their roles and make exceptional contributions to the students’ academic and professional journey, in traditional (classroom) or nontraditional educational settings.

Award Terms

Each recipient of the Excellence in Advising Award also receives a monetary award in the amount of $3,000. Awards will be conferred at the Academic Honors Banquet on Monday, April 21, 2025.

Eligibility

This award seeks to reward individuals who are uniquely effective in helping students meet their educational and professional goals for a minimum of three years.

Prior award recipients are ineligible.

Nomination Process

Nominator’s affiliation with the nominee

  • In a brief statement (300 characters or less), why should this nominee be recognized for excellence in advising? You will have the opportunity to provide more detail in the next questions.
  • How does the nominee build relationships with students as individuals to help them create community and belonging at UTK? What are ways they support students during difficult decisions and/or moments in their academic journey?
  • Describe how the nominee successfully advises, mentors and develops students to encourage their self-efficacy and personal growth.
  • Provide one or two examples of a time when the nominee’s efforts encouraged and supported the academic and/or professional success of students.
  • Student Perspective:
    • For students submitting nominations: As a student, what makes the nominee stand out as exceptional compared to other advisors and/or faculty you have worked with?
    • For others: How do students describe the nominee?
  • Additional letters of support are not needed for this award.
